About Windridge Tennis & Sports Camps

The "Windridge Tennis & Sports Camps Experience" is centered on the belief that if children are encouraged to do well in areas that they enjoy, they will show positive personality growth.

By providing a wide range of instruction in sports and an opportunity for supervised group living, we are able to give campers the fundamentals they need for fulfilling their individual potentials. Within the Windridge community, youngsters discover the meaning of trust and respect for others, and are able to realize a confidence in themselves as well as a good feeling toward those around them.

We incorporate highly specialized tennis, soccer and horseback riding programs within the traditional framework of a rural New England camp setting. Windridge also offers many elective programs such as golf, mountain biking, archery, ropes course, basketball, volleyball, arts & crafts and more.
Location
Located in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont, Windridge has been the summer home for generations. Our exciting and well-rounded programs offer campers from around the world the opportunity for personal growth in a safe, friendly and encouraging environment. Kids leave with a sense of accomplishment, self-worth and memories that last a life time
Program
"Jay LOVED his time at camp and is looking forward to going back next summer! Jay's confidence has grown since camp and there's been a huge shift in his ability to stay positive on the courts since his meaningful experience at Windridge."

Tennis

Our tennis major is geared to every level of ability. The basis of the tennis program is a focus on fundamentals, emphasizing the correct grips, early preparation, proper footwork, and efficient body mechanics. Other focal points are conditioning, singles and doubles strategy, drills and match play. A challenge ladder is available and tournaments for different ability levels are held at the end of each session. Matches are often scheduled with nearby camps and clubs as well. We incorporate USTA recommended court sizes and ball compressions for relevant ages and abilities in matches and in lessons. Windridge has 22 tennis courts - 13 red clay, 8 HarTru, and 1 indoor hard court. Our ratio of one instructor to four campers provides the opportunity for individualized attention and allows each camper maximum playing time.

Soccer
Skills building is the essence of the Windridge soccer experience. Our program develops both technical and tactical skills. Small groups practice skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, trapping, and heading. Tactics are introduced to give purpose and direction to working with teammates. Campers look forward to putting their new skills to work on game days and in scrimmages and games with other camps and local clubs. Each session ends with an intra-camp tournament. Teela-Wooket has two regulation-size soccer fields, a large multi-purpose practice field, and a kick board. Our "Soccer Mansion" provides an indoor area for equipment storage, strategy sessions, and video analysis on rainy days.

Riding
Classical English horseback riding has been taught at Teela-Wooket since 1913 and today's campers enjoy a range of mounted activities such as show jumping, dressage, eventing, hunter trials, cross-country, pony club games, and trail riding in the beautiful mountains of Vermont. The emphasis is on fun and skill development in the riding program. In addition, our campers love to play a part in the daily care of their horses. Campers learn everything from stable management to animal behavior and first aid to feeding. We have three outdoor training rings, an indoor arena and many cross-country trails. We appreciate that children are individuals, so our staff are trained to develop a progress plan with each camper designed to boost their confidence and improve their riding skills.

Electives
Modern sports development theorists have learned that children between the ages of 8-15 will become better athletes if they are exposed to a number of sports during these ages. Our elective program helps us meet our goals of athlete development by giving campers an opportunity to participate in a variety of both athletic and non-athletic activities. Some of the elective activities are archery, basketball, arts & crafts, mountain biking, pickle ball, ropes course, swimming, volleyball, improv, golf and others offered by our talented staff.

A DAY AT Windridge Tennis & Sports Camps
A typical day at Windridge offers a wide variety of activities. Our daily schedule has four periods in the morning and four in the afternoon. We combine two periods together to create a major block for our major periods in tennis, soccer and horseback riding.

All campers must select at least one major. They may select multiple majors or two majors in one sport. The rest of the periods are filled with our extensive elective choices. Campers are allowed to change their schedule each day so they can try a variety of activities and schedule time with their friends. Each evening we offer different programs that involve all campers, either as a whole or in age-appropriate groups.

Some of our elective options are: archery, arts & crafts, basketball, dance, improv, golf, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, ropes/challenge course, stable management, lacrosse and more.

Higher is a typical daily schedule.

Windridge - "A Place To Be Tech Free"
Camp gives the much needed break that kids need form the world of technology. It allows them the freedom to develop relationships and communication skills, face to face, without all the distractions. Camp offers kids a tech free zone.

In this zone, campers enjoy three meals a day, around a table talking, laughing and playing games. Without a screen they make eye contact and see the world around them. When their fingers aren't texting they feel their surroundings. Un-plugged campers learn to communicate, explore, observe, build and create. They learn how to deal with their emotions, and they develop compassion for others.

Please help us create a tech free zone that allows our campers to take advantage of all that Windridge has to offer and make sure your child leaves his/her technology at home. If he/she needs a phone for travel purposes, make sure he/she turns it into the office the first day, and we'll make sure they get it back for their trip home.
