Aloha Beach Camp is an aquatic-themed summer day camp for kids, teens, and tweens in Los Angeles, California.

The camp is comprised of three age-appropriate programs under the Aloha Beach Camp name:
• Keiki Camp is exclusively for younger campers ages 4 through 7
• Kahuna Camp is for campers 8 to 11
• High Action Camp is for older kids 12 to 15 years old

Philosophy
Kids who attend our program enjoy an amazing beach and surf summer camp experience unlike any other. They develop lifelong water safety skills and master new aquatic sports like surfing and boogie boarding. They study beach and ocean safety, wave judgment and selection, and how to swim safely in the ocean and more, always with an emphasis on beach safety and environmental respect.

Most importantly, we will never force a child to do any activity they're uncomfortable with; we will positively encourage their participation instead. When summer's over, Aloha kids come away with a new sense of confidence, esteem, and appreciation for the beach and ocean environment so they can enjoy these natural wonders safely all their lives.
Location
We consider Zuma Beach our home because camp takes place there the most of the time. But the fun doesn't stop there. We also take field trips to Castaic Lake, Hurricane Harbor, Channel Islands Harbor, Paradise Cove Beach and many more aquatic venues on a routine basis so campers can experience all the best aquatic sites L.A. has to offer.

The Keiki Camp daily activity schedule, Kahuna Camp daily activity schedule, and High Action Camp dailyactivity schedules indicate the specific locations each individual program will visit this summer. (From time-to-time we may add or change locations, and/or incorporate different activities or special events which could necessitate modifications from preplanned schedules, however, we'll always do our best to tell you beforehand.)
Program
From surfing to sand castles and bug hunts to beach hikes, Aloha Beach Camp offers three age-appropriate summer beach camp programs plus 200 safe and fun aquatic day camp activities under the Aloha name.

No prior beach or ocean experience is necessary at any of our programs because our counselors will be right beside you every step of the way showing you how to do every activity from the ground up at your most comfortable pace.

Keiki Camp (For younger children ages 4 to 7)
The first beach day camp just for younger kids, Aloha Beach Camp's Keiki Camp is designed to meet the unique needs of younger children, many of whom are experiencing the beach and ocean environment for the first time.

The goal of this program is to help younger campers feel safe and comfortable in the ocean. At Keiki Camp, boys and girls ages ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 enjoy surfing lessons, boogie boarding instruction, group sand games and many more aquatic and Hawaii-themed beach activities.

Keiki Camp takes place at Zuma Beach and Paradise Cove in Malibu on a rotating basis.

Kahuna Camp (For kids and "tweens" ages 8 to 11)
Kahuna Camp is for kids and "tweens" who are too old for Keiki Camp, but not quite ready for our High Action program (see below). Kahuna Camp takes place at Zuma Beach, Paradise Cove, Castaic Lake and other beach sites on a rotating basis. As with all our programs, you can pick and choose any days of camp you want. Whatever schedule that works for your family is the schedule that works best for us.

Surfing, jet skiing, boogie boarding and wakeboarding are just some of theKahuna Camp activities offered. Daily transportation is available from your area.

Even if you've never done these kinds of activities before, don't worry! :) Many, if not most, of the other kids at camp are new to this stuff, too. We'll teach you how to do it every step of the way! :)

Kahuna Daily Activity Schedule 2019

High Action Camp (For kids and teens 12 to 15)
Designed exclusively for older kids ages 12 to 15, High Action Camp takes place at a different beach, lake or water park each day. Camp locations include Zuma Beach, Castaic Lake and other aquatic venues. The High Action activities are the same you'll find at Kahuna Camp, but presented at a somewhat faster pace making this program the thrill of a lifetime for older campers!

Most of the kids who attend our High Action Camp tell us they've grown tired of other local summer camps where the kids are too young and the activities are too boring, so they switched to Aloha Beach Camp for a more exciting camp experience and to meet and hang out with lots of other kids their age.

As with all of our programs, we understand campers may have limited experience participating in the kinds of aquatic activities we offer. That's absolutely fine, and part of the fun! You don't need ANY experience whatsoever to enjoy everything Aloha has to offer. Our counselors will show you how to do all the activities at whatever pace that's comfortable for you.

Summer camps are only as good as their staffs. If the counselors don't make the program safe and fun for the kids, what's the point? We're fortunate to have a strong, experienced management team and core group of camp counselors who return to Aloha each summer, and whose top priority is ensuring your camper's safety and fun every day.

Our staff is comprised of college students, teachers, and childcare professionals with years of experience working with kids and years of experience working at Aloha Beach Camp. Many are returning for their 5th or 6th summers working with us and have grown up through our program, starting out as campers and working their way up to become counselors and directors.

Our staff is chosen for their ability to work with kids in a leadership capacity plus serve as positive role models. Aloha camp counselors must pass a rigorous 3-phase interview process including at least two in-person interviews, 3rd party reference checks, and a criminal background check. Our staff's top priority is protecting your child's safety while making sure they have lots of fun at camp!
Health & Safety
Aloha Beach Camp is 100% Accredited by the American Camp Association
This means we meet or exceed up to 300 best-practice industry standards relative to camp programming, transportation, safety, supervision and more. If the camp you're considering is not accredited, ask the camp director why.

We Require our Camp Counselors to be Certified Lifeguards
All staff is required to hold active and valid lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications as a fundamental condition of employment. While some staff members come to us already certified, each undergoes Aloha Beach Camp's lifeguard, CPR and First Aid training and certification programs anyway. In this manner, we can put our stamp of approval on the fact your camper will be supervised by the highest trained and most qualified camp counselors in the business.

We Conduct Sun and Ocean Safety Assemblies with All the Kids, Everyday

Your camper will learn about rip currents, dangerous shore break, high surf, the risks of diving into shallow water and other potentially hazardous beach and ocean conditions. Sunscreen is applied liberally throughout the day, plus we provide large tents and canopies for maximum shade and comfort.

Ice water is available all day for campers and staff
Dehydration can be a problem if you don't stay on top of it. That's why we make ice water available for the kids all day and remind them to drink it...even if they're not thirsty!

We Establish our Daily Campsite Area with Bright Orange Cones Directly Adjacent to a Staffed Lifeguard Tower
Campers may not leave this coned-off boundary without a counselor. The cones also send a "KEEP OUT" message to strangers. If the lifeguard tower is not staffed by a public lifeguard, campers are not permitted in the water.

We Maintain Low Camper-to-Counselor Ratios at All Times
You'll find camper-to-staff ratios as low as 3:1 (and often less) when kids are in the water.

Headcounts are Taken Regularly Throughout the Day on the Bus, in the Water, and on the Sand

The Counselors Swim Together with the Kids; Campers NEVER Swim Alone
Swimming in the ocean is a HUGE part of every Aloha Beach Camp experience. Campers always swim with the counselors and never swim alone. All campers are always within arms reach of their camp counselors at all times.

We Enforce these Additional Mandatory Safety Rules:
  • Every camper takes a swimming evaluation their firstday of camp. Based on this evaluation, campers wearcolor-coded wristbands designating how deep they cango in the water. No one may go deeper than their waist
  • Everyone wears an Aloha Beach Camp t-shirt or rashguard everyday indicating they're membership of ourparticular camp group on the beach.
  • Nobody may enter the water without someone from ourstaff
  • Nobody may visit the restroom without staff supervision
  • We maintain an open door policy regarding visitation>Parents are invited to camp, unannounced, to superviseour safety program any time

When you think of Aloha Beach Camp, our Los Angeles day camp might come to mind. But did you know we have an overnight summer camp in Hawaii, too?

That's right, it's called our "Aloha Hawaii Sleepaway" and takes place right on the beach on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu, just steps from world-famous Waikiki Beach.

For kids seeking the most fun and adventure any camp can offer, Aloha Beach Camp's Hawaii sleepaway program for kids andteens is the place to be. We've combined the rich beauty, history, and culture of the Hawaiian Islands with the uniquely traditional American summer camp experience you already know.

Camp Overview
Our Hawaii summer camp program runs just 1-week from Monday, August 5 to Saturday, August 10, 2019. It's a very small program with limited space for just a select number of kids. Last year the program sold out, and we anticipate even more demand this summer. If your child's interested in this program, the following information is for you.
    Transportation
    Daily transportation, on safety-equipped, fully insured buses and vans is included from your area. To ensure short rides and reliable schedules, we have arranged convenient meeting points. Campers are picked up each morning at their respective meeting points between 8:00 and 9:00 AM, then transported directly to the day's activity site - a local beach or lake, for example -- then returned home to the same meeting point each afternoon between 4:00 and 5:00 PM

    We have bus stops throughout Los Angeles and the local Valleys. Below is a general list of our transportation pick-up and drop-off areas. We're pretty sure you'll find a bus stop near you, but even if you don't live within the following transportation boundaries, you should not let this stop you from signing up for camp since we still may be able to work with you to establish a new bus stop for you that's convenient and meets your needs.

    The general transportation service area is bounded by:
    • Porter Ranch/Granada Hills to the North;
    • Wilshire Blvd. to the South;
    • Studio City/Toluca Lake to the East; and
    • Calabasas/Agoura to the West
    We also have pick-up points at:
    • 3rd Street School in Hancock Park
    • The Brentwood Country Club in Brentwood
    • Palisades High School in the Pacific Palisades
    • Bluffs Park in Malibu
    • Cheviot Hills Park in West L.A.
    Using our bus service is entirely free and included in your camp tuition as a benefit of enrollment. Unlike other camps, Aloha Beach Camp never charges more for transportation.

    Driving duties are typically handled by professional school bus drivers, and sometimes Aloha Beach Camp counselors. Each vehicle usually has at least one additional Aloha Beach Camp staff member on board for additional safety and supervision.
    If you live outside our transportation boundaries, please let us know because we still may be able to accommodate you.
    All Aloha Beach Camp vehicles are equipped with seat belts which are required to be worn by every passenger at all times.
      FAQ
      Does My Child Need to Know How to Swim?
      Knowing how to swim before attending camp is not a requirement. At the same time, it may be a good idea for your child to have at least some swimming experience before signing up if you think this would help you feel more comfortable before sending them. Whatever you decide, please rest assured many campers who attend our program have very little (in any) swimming experience in the ocean or the pool. Accordingly, our program is designed to accommodate kids of all swimming levels because we offer many fun activities both in the water and on the sand. Everyone (even non-swimmers) is welcome at Aloha Beach Camp!

      Does My Child Need to Take a Swim Test?
      We prefer to call it a swim assessment, not a test, because there is no "pass or fail" involved. (Everyone "passes" no matter what :) We realize some campers may get anxious over this but there's no need to worry. Here's how it works. On your child's first day of camp, our counselors will enter the shallow ocean water together with your child, and we'll duck under a wave together to see who pops out first! It takes just a minute or less to complete this assessment, and from this point forward our staff will be able to help your child become more safe and comfortable in the ocean and improve their aquatic safety and swimming skills. So remember, it's not a test, only an assessment, and your camper will be fine, no need to worry! :)

      What are the Starting and Ending Times?

      Assuming your camper takes the bus to and from camp each day, morning pick-up is generally between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and afternoon drop-off between 4:00 AM and 5:00 PM. If you're dropping off and/or picking up your child at camp, we suggest arriving at 9:45 AM for morning drop-off and 2:35 PM for afternoon pickup.

      What is day-by-day Enrollment?

      Day-by-day enrollment gives you complete flexibility planning for camp. It's the first camp enrollment format that works with "real-life" schedules allowing you to truly customize your own camp schedule by signing up for camp by the day. You don't have to conform to rigid prearrange camp sessions because we don't have sessions. Instead, you can send your child to camp a day here, a day there... whatever works best for your family. Day-by-day enrollment means your other summer activities won't conflict with camp scheduling ever again. Just tell us which days you want to come to camp (they can be any days you want), and as long as we have space those days, you're in. Easy!

      What Should My Child Wear and Bring to Camp?
      Generally, we suggest a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, and lunch inside a backpack. You might also want to send a change of clothes for the end of the day. Campers can also bring a little spending money if they want to buy lunch or snacks at camp. Other than that, you'll be all set!

      Can Parents Come to Camp Too?
      Aloha Beach Camp has an open door policy on parent visitation. We suggest calling ahead of time to confirm our location, but otherwise, feel free to stop by and hang out with us any time. (We even have organized "Parent Days" this summer where you can come to the beach to see all the fun things you're child is doing at camp and meet other camp familes, too.       The Aloha Day Camp lasts for 10 weeks starting from Jun. 17 till Aug. 23.

      Sibling Discounts
